What do you get when you take a neko, add body image issues and an oversized appetite, subtract a whole lot of self-control, and put her in a highschool full of humans? A troubled girl with a weighty conscience and an even weightier gut.
In this world, it’s easy to wind up as a quick lunch if you get tangled up with the wrong people. But the ‘wrong’ and ‘right’ people aren’t always who you think.
Feeling inspired, determined and brave, Elizabeth has finally worked up the nerve to ask out Nicholas, a cute boy who she’s never really talked to before. High school romance is hard, and the whole ‘predators and prey’ thing sure doesn’t make it any easier. She’s not sure how it’ll turn out, but she’s going for it. It’ll be something new for both of them. How badly could it go?
This is a side-story set in the world of How Not To Become Lunch. You don’t need to know the events of the main series to follow this story, but it would probably help to know the world a little bit. If you want to read the first few stories (or more) the whole series can be found here:
How Not To Become Lunch
It’s an interesting, unconventional life, that’s for sure. It’s easier in some ways, harder in others, but it’s never comfortable, living in the gray blur between the lines, never quite sure which side you’re really on. Predator or prey? Human or… something else? Even if you know where you’re meant to be, finding yourself stuck in the middle, one can’t help longing for that sense of belonging, contentment, family, the warm smiles and Laughter you can see every day.
Maybe, with a bit of luck, a bit of love, the right support, and a whole lot of hard work, it’s actually possible to become the person you know you can be? To finally fit in, not with the world, but with yourself. Maybe…
There’s only one way to find out.
The term ‘fast food’ means something very different to a predator. While for humans, it might be a cheap, quick way to stuff your gut and pack on the pounds, for a pred, chasing after fast food might actually force you to spend some of that hard-earned pudge.
When humans start getting sick to their stomachs all over town, the people in charge are called upon to figure out why. A human is sent out to investigate the food supply, along with a bodyguard to make sure he doesn’t end up as food himself. But considering their not-too-distant ‘history’, and their combined inexperience, it’s anyone’s guess whether this ‘protected’ human ends up uncovering some illegal food, or becoming some instead.
